A rally called to protest an Aboriginal death in custody will be held on Thursday March 11, at 11am at Parliament House on George and Alice Streets in Brisbane City. The man died in the Princess Alexandra Hospital on February 20 after being transferred from the Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre, which is managed by GEO Group Australia. We spoke to Aboriginal community worker Sam Watson about the death.

Mr Watson said that the prison administration had breached their duty of care to the man who has died. He also said that the rally would support the community on Palm Island as a third inquest opens into the death of Mulrunji Doomadgee in a police cell there in 2004.

Ross McSwain of the Queensland Correctional Services department said he would not comment on the allegation that the Aboriginal man was denied the medical care he requested, as a coronial investigation was underway.
